After watching Munich, can you draw analogies to the current War on Terror? Is there an answer to this war? How do we win? Can we lose? You may comment on these or any other aspects of or questions on the subject raised by the movie. Keep in mind that we will also be watching the Tony Blair speech at Georgetown University from 5/06.

Well obviously one can find connections from our current "War on Terror" to the attacks that the Israelis committed in Munich. For one, they were retaliation to the events which occured during the Olympics in Munich. This is important because this is how Golda Meir and other high up officials of Israel justified the retaliation attacks in and after 1972.
I do not believe that there is an answer to our war. There is no definitive end that could be seen in the near future. This is because we have no idea what we are fighting. We say that this is a "War on Terror" but we, as a class, have already discovered how hard it is to define what exactly terrorism is. So do we say that we are fighting roadside bombs and suicidal Muslims or do we consider this a war on Iraqis crouching in a building shooting at US troops. In class, when asked how we could win the "War on Terror" I said, much to the astonishment of Josh, that we could have a snowball fight. Yes, a stupid comment I admit, but it was the first thing that came to my head to exaggerate the stupidity and nonsense of a war with no exact meaning. So just to clarify, I do not apologize for the hyperbole. The "War on Terror" can not be won because we are unable to declare war on anything. If we were fighting an actual "War on Terror" we would not have been waging war on Saddam Hussein but on the leaders of Syria or Libya, or why the hell not of Northern Ireland? This is important to the subject because during the movie Munich did anyone actually succeed at anything? Did the Israelis really stick it to the Palestinians? And did the Palestinians scare the Israels s***less? I think not. The bottom line is that no matter what we do there will always be the people that can not deal with other people and decide to blow themselves up. We have to learn to deal with it and not invade entire countries.
The prior statement also brings up another question. Does the possession of WMD's define terrorism. Because that was our reason for invading Iraq and knocking Saddam out. And if the holding of WMD's counts for terrorism than the US is a terrorist. Didn't we already know that?
