Is there a modern day DaVinci?
Is there a modern day DaVinci? Can you think of anyone in our time who may be looked upon in the same light centuries down the road? If so, who and why? If not, why not?

I do not belive in a Modern day Davinci. Leonardo was just a unique genius, centuries ahead of his time. Davinci was also a genious in more than one areas, something that is not seen that much today, people ussally are good at one subject.
Not only was Davinci a genious, he also did his experiments where in that day in age would be considered heresy, todays soceity is accepting of experiments and new ideas, Leonardo did his experiments in secret.
I do not believe that there is a modern day DaVinci. While many people in the world today are making great strides in various fields, such as astrophysics, health care, engineering and psychology, none of them are on the scope of those achieved by Leonardo during the Renaissance. For one man to do so much in so many different areas of study is almost too much to believe, and in a much more populated world, it is much harder for one person to stand out when often researching with teams in various parts of the world.
If one person could really raise the bar for humans scientifically and culturally like Leonardo did, you wouldn't need to ask this question; you would already know the answer. If one person were really as great and radical as DaVinvci was to his time period, people would know it around the world due to modern communications. The closest person that comes to my mind is Professor Stephen Hawking, however his almost unfathomable depth of understanding is much more focussed than DaVinci's, covering only one area very intensely rather than multiple areas well before his time.
No there is no modern day Da Vinci. As far as we know, there is nobody with this combination of talents in the world today. Da Vinci reached the pinnacle of three different professions: scientist, artist, and engineer. Nowadays, we need only one talent to get by. Bill Gates is great at designing software, but couldn’t he paint the Mona Lisa. Peyton Manning is a great football player, but he couldn’t design one of the world’s first flying machines. There’s no such thing as a dreamer anymore. The things that Da Vinci dreamed about in his time would be obsolete in ours. In our world we no longer dream, because we have the technology to create reality. One of the things we respect most about Da Vinci is that he was a visionary, he thought of technology hundreds of years before it was invented. Nowadays we can’t look that far ahead. The technology in our future will either be radically different beyond our comprehension or it will be very similar to what we have now. The things that Da Vinci designed were all relatively simple, even for the time period he lived in. Very few of us today could design a computer, unless we were educated to all the innermost workings of these machines. Technology has advanced to the point that only the most educated individuals can design new technology. It simply cannot be done with common sense and a high school education anymore. Another problem is that our world doesn’t have a lot of room for thinkers or ponderers anymore. Our society doesn’t accept the fact that you can have free time to yourself to think. We have become so competitive that if someone like Da Vinci tried to do the things he did today, he would be left behind. For Da Vinci, life was an intellectual adventure. For us, it’s a footrace. Also, think about it, if Da Vinci was designing radical technology today, it wouldn’t remain undiscovered for centuries. Da Vinci would have done what ever he could to get it out in the public so he could make some money off of it. In conclusion, it’s not that Da Vinci was all that better than the geniuses today. It’s just that our society today wouldn’t allow somebody like Da Vinci to be another Da Vinci. Da Vinci thrived during the Renaissance, and only under those circumstances would another genius become a Da Vinci-like figure. Sure, we may have geniuses as smart and memorable as Da Vinci, but not in the same way Da Vinci was.
Leonardo Da Vinci was probably the most intelligent and innovative men of his time. In fact, for his works he has sometimes been called the “Father of the Renaissance”. These works spanned through every field of science and art that was known at the time, from improvements in everyday technology, to the weapons of war, to works of art that even today are renowned as some of the greatest ever created. As an example, the Mona Lisa has puzzled scholars for centuries, giving each one of them a different impression of why she is smiling the way she is. Other inventions of his that were hundreds of years ahead of his time included designs for an artificial heart and the first flying machine (both of which are plausible).
Like Da Vinci, scientists today are constantly developing new technologies to improve our daily lives. These are all inventions that focus on pure science and hard technology for solutions to problems. While this is all has advanced our society beyond any other that has existed before, scientists and artists today are not seen as the “celebrities” of our time period, unlike those of the Renaissance. As such, at least from our point of view, no scientist or artist will be viewed as one of the greats from our time period.
The biggest difference between people in our era and Da Vinci is the way in which they went about constructing their works. As stated before, scientists of today rely mostly on cold hard information and the aid of technology for their work. However, what sets Da Vinci apart from all others is the fact that he based all of his work upon his observations of nature. The ultimate example of this was the Vitruvian Man, which supposedly describes the proportions of the perfect human body. This approach allowed him to discover things far ahead of his time and actually create things that could rival modern day technology. It is this focus on simple nature which makes Da Vinci so great and which puts him so far ahead of modern day inventors and artists.
It is difficult to choose someone in our time that can compare to the great Da Vinci. Da Vinci’s genius included a diverse range of accomplishments. His genius is and probably always will be unmatched in my opinion. However, there is one modern day individual that I think has made significant contributions to society, like Da Vinci did. This individual is Bill Gates.
Bill Gates has made numerous innovations in the field of technology. He has impacted our society by bringing technology to everyone. He is the founder of Microsoft, a company that has drastically changed the computer industry. Today, we are so dependent on our computers in all aspects of our lives. This would probably be different if it were not for Bill Gates. Gates also contributed to the growth of the Internet, another revolutionary development that has greatly impacted our lives. In addition, Bill Gates is an incredible philanthropist, and his foundation has benefited so many people.
Da Vinci was a creative genius in art and innovation. Bill Gates is a creative genius in software development revolutionary technology.
In the case of Leonardo DaVinci, time is the significant factor that led to his greatness. Although his artwork was greatly sought after even during his life, it wasn’t until rather recently that society began to respect his other achievements that were beyond his artistic abilities. His theories through the study of nature enabled him to contribute to the sciences that were unheard of in his time. The idea that most of his ideas came simply from observation is amazing with the realization that many of his untested theories held the ring of truth.
Due to his many accomplishments, no man has yet managed to rival Leonardo DaVinci’s discoveries prior, or even after his death. Based on the many areas of study that DaVinci had made a contribution to such as the study of the human anatomy, the first glider design that would bring mankind to flight, and the many mechanisms designed for the purpose of warfare among many other things, it seems almost unbelievable that anyone in existence had fathomed each and every one of those ideas.
This brings me to the point that it seems rather unrealistic that a single man had the brilliance to come up with all those ideas. In past standards, our standards, and even future standards, Leonardo DaVinci is an intellectual man whom would be at the top of the elite class of true geniuses. Perhaps if DaVinci hadn’t been held so highly even in life, the knowledge of his past may have been lost and there would be controversy as to the real Leonard DaVinci.
Even though it’s agreed upon that there is no one that has or ever will surpass DaVinci in contributions from various areas of study, the closest man that could be related to in skepticism of a single human taking the credit of many great works that seems to be the compilation of many great intellects; would be Shakespeare. William Shakespeare was known for his many literary works written in his time of the Elizabethan period of England. If DaVinci was known as a master artist, Shakespeare was equal to him in his prestige as a master of words. Because of the many plays and sonnets written by Shakespeare, many historians believe that Shakespeare wasn’t only one person, but may have been the pen name of several. Although DaVinci’s identity doesn’t seem to be questioned, the feelings of the two men are still mutual in the idea of how ludicrous it seems for one man to have accomplished so much.
The main difference between the two men obviously is DaVinci’s discoveries of having gone above and beyond what was expected through observation of the time. By no means are all the mysteries of the world solved, but at the same time, it’s hard to think of what other significant advances humans can now make. With the introduction of technology in the form of new gadgets, primarily the computer; it seems less and less likely that a modern day DaVinci would be born, or already existed.
To put it simply, the world today is too enclosed, or rather, too ignorant to give rise to another true genius. As mentioned earlier, technology is starting to replace the foundations of how to gather data and create new things. In this day and age, most of the questions of life that could be discovered through simple observation have already been brought to light. Also, although new ideas or discoveries are open to the opinion of the general public, the discrimination of what’s new or just unknown still exists today. For example, the idea of someone collecting bodies of the deceased to cut open and experiment with for the sole purpose of personal observation as DaVinci had done seems absurd, if not morbid. It was through this process that DaVinci had learned about the idea of vortexes that existed in nature and the human heart. To do this in reality would be looked down upon nowadays without proper funding or entitled rights through the government or other influential organizations. The abilities of someone like DaVinci would simply be too limited to be truly realized in the twentieth century.
As a result, the possibility of a modern day DaVinci seems slim, if not nonexistent. If there were, than the successor of DaVinci’s brilliance would have to experiment with the aid of technology for it to be considered truly great compared to what has already been accomplished. The idea of using technology as an aid doesn’t seem to have the same affect as DaVinci’s discoveries whom based his hypotheses solely through observing nature, which could only be attributed to a great mind. For the slim possibility of another genius, only time will tell and acknowledge the extent of his greatness, as it had been for DaVinci.
An inventor of revolutionary ideas, a thinker in the world of theology, a master of art, and a genius ahead of his time; none other than the Leonardo Da Vinci. To find someone in today’s world, who is advanced in these wide ranges of studies, as Da Vinci was in his time, is not possible. With the use of books, TV, and the computer, a person can easily educate themselves to have them be labeled as “smart” or “intelligent.” These so called “smart” people of the 20th century are only classified as that because they are able to study and memorize material that was already made known by former intellectuals. Furthermore, the amount of information that is available to individuals greatly limits their ability to have a shot of becoming a fraction of what Da Vinci was throughout his life. The knowledge from Da Vinci’s period was so limited that he had to come to his own conclusions and analysis’s on his own about religion and inventions. In today’s world, it’s extremely difficult to become well known in one subject area. Da Vinci was obviously known for his intellectual contributions to more than just 1 subject. Throughout the world, in all continents, there is a scientist, a mathematician, or an artist, that is making breaking headlines for a significant advancement in their specialized subject. Ten years from now we will give them the recognition they deserve. Twenty years from now we may remember their name and what they did. But centuries from now, that scientist, mathematician, or artist will just become some name that once improved and expanded society’s growing wealth of knowledge. As for Da Vinci, he is timeless. He isn’t some name in some book that has no relevance to the present world that we live in. Da Vinci’s inventions are still used today and even the brightest thinkers of the world are trying to understand his way of thinking. What makes Da Vinci different from so many others of his time period and those of the modern world is that he is as creative as he is talented. Without a good combination of talent and creativeness, most of the inventions from Da Vinci that we use today might not even have been invented yet. There are many brilliant scientist out there, but they lack creativeness. Da Vinci was unique in his way of thinking for a man of his time period. If we were to take Da Vinci and put him into a time machine that brought him to our day and age, the advances that he could probably think of are unimaginable to the modern genius. Da Vinci was also unique in his style of painting. Take for example, The Mona Lisa. Researchers and art professors of the modern world have difficulty understanding Da Vinci’s meaning and interpretation of the painting through his distinct style. This is an indication of how cryptic Da Vinci was in his style of artwork. Researchers have developed theories and written papers on little details of the painting that only a great artist like Da Vinci could have created. For example, researchers have been and still are trying to come up with explanation as to why Mona Lisa’s smile is seen differently by people who stop to look at the painting. Artists of the modern world could only dream of having their work become as famous as his centuries from now. There are people of our time who are thought to be Da Vinci’s but the more one thinks about it, you instantly realize that there’s no way that is possible. For some, Bill Gates is a modern day Da Vinci. I strongly disagree with those people because although Bill Gates has accomplished a lot, it is only in the area of computers. Years from now, we might not even use computers. Computers could very easily become the typewriter and then what will happen to Bill Gates? His name will be written down in textbooks and rarely brought up. As for Da Vinci, he has been incorporated into so much of our life, through his inventions and works. We have a movie with his name in it, The Da Vinci Code, we have a movie and song taken from his painting, The Mona Lisa, and of course we have his inventions that are still used today, which include the parachute, the submarine, pulley systems, cranes, and many more. Like I said earlier, a modern day Da Vinci in nearly impossible to come across again in history. A modern day Da Vinci would have to be so ahead of their time that it won’t be until centuries later that they’re recognized for their work. Along with that, this modern day Da Vinci would have to have intelligence that of which is beyond a classified genius because thinking back to Da Vinci’s time, he didn’t have the education that is supplied to us today, such as college and grad school.
First of all, DaVinci, because he was so far ahead of his time was not as widely recognized in his own age as he is now. It might be the same with our "modern-day" DaVinci. Intellectuals who are ahead of our time simply could not be recognized in our time period, but overtime future generations might make discoveries that coincide with the 2006 DaVinci's ideas.
I also believe that because DaVinci was so versatile in his studies, he was indeed a genuis. In my opinion, the modern-day DaVinci would be studying something rarely looked into by scholars and intellectuals. Perhaps the study of the mind and the powers of using more than 10% of your brain. I believe that might be one of the biggest break throughs other than the cures for diseases. This 2006 DaVinci could be studying a vast degree of topics of little significance to most people such as the ability to fully communicate with animals, transport living things like in starwars, or read other's minds. These are skills not yet aquired and seemingly impossible, but DaVinci's ideas, such as flying, seemed impossible at the time. Today the idea of flying is so capable and realistic that it is a common mode of trasportation for millions of people everyday. You never know.

We have a movie with his name in it, The Da Vinci Code, we have a movie and song taken from his painting, The Mona Lisa, and of course we have his inventions that are still used today, which include the parachute, the submarine, pulley systems, cranes, and many more. Like I said earlier, a modern day Da Vinci in nearly impossible to come across again in history. A modern day Da Vinci would have to be so ahead of their time that it won’t be until centuries later that they’re recognized for their work. Along with that, this modern day Da Vinci would have to have intelligence that of which is beyond a classified genius because thinking back to Da Vinci’s time, he didn’t have the education that is supplied to us today, such as college and grad school.
First of all, DaVinci, because he was so far ahead of his time was not as widely recognized in his own age as he is now. It might be the same with our "modern-day" DaVinci. Intellectuals who are ahead of our time simply could not be recognized in our time period, but overtime future generations might make discoveries that coincide with the 2006 DaVinci's ideas.
I also believe that because DaVinci was so versatile in his studies, he was indeed a genuis. In my opinion, the modern-day DaVinci would be studying something rarely looked into by scholars and intellectuals. Perhaps the study of the mind and the powers of using more than 10% of your brain. I believe that might be one of the biggest break throughs other than the cures for diseases. This 2006 DaVinci could be studying a vast degree of topics of little significance to most people such as the ability to fully communicate with animals, transport living things like in starwars, or read other's minds. These are skills not yet aquired and seemingly impossible, but DaVinci's ideas, such as flying, seemed impossible at the time. Today the idea of flying is so capable and realistic that it is a common mode of trasportation for millions of people everyday.
