Is there a modern day Da Vinci? Can you think of anyone in our time who may be looked upon in the same light centuries down the road? If so, who and why? If not, why not?

I don’t believe that there is a modern day Da Vinci. Da Vinci was a man who was ahead of his time. The reason I believe this is because he was an inventor, architect, artist, engineer and a scientist. There is no one in the 21st century who had the wealth of varied knowledge as Da Vinci had. There are some people would be ahead of their of time such as the Wright brothers. They were obsessed with flight and came up with the first airplane. The Wright brothers may or may not have known that Da Vinci beat them to it. Da Vinci designed a flyer; though he was never able to see his design to take flight during his lifetime. Da Vinci took it upon himself to study the world around him and how everything works. The medical field still uses Da Vinci’s drawings and notes as a reference point. Da Vinci was curious at how the body worked so he studied Cadavers. Da Vinci studied all works, elements and aspects of life. When studied these things he drew diagrams and took notes. As later people use as foundations for their studies. Now people are more specialized in one field. Now that people have concentrated their efforts, they prevent themselves from exploring more fields. Da Vinci is long gone but his designs are eternal.
Da Vinci was not the world renowned engineer, inventor, architect and scientist we all know now, back then. We can only really appreciate his entire body of work hundreds of years after it was first developed. The technology during his life was light years behind his ideas and concepts. There was no sure fire way to test his hypothesis with such limited resources. His thoughts and ideas can only now become a reality because we can now interpret them and have the materials to implement them. If he ever shared his ideas and brought them to light all that time ago, no one could believe him or understand them. They were far to advanced, they would just go over people’s heads. I think for a modern day Da Vinci, the same would have to be true.
Their ideas and concepts would be so far ahead of the curve, no one now would be able to appreciate them. Even if there was someone like this out there, there is no real way to know. The technology and skill needed for developing such mature ideas would not be available. It’s possible that five hundred years down the road we realize we lived among such talent and innovation but with our relatively crude perspective we are just too ignorant to realize it.
I do not believe that Leonardo Da Vinci has someone even close to his intellect and accomplishments in our era. Da Vinci studied in so many fields of science and excelled in them so that it is almost impossible to match, never the less surpass, Da Vinci’s achievements. Da Vinci designed several machines and experiments that even today scientists are learning from. Nobody today is a hundred years in advance of our time. One other reason could be the increase of technology. It took me tens of thousands of years to fly and then landed on the moon a couple decades later. Because technology builds on itself Da Vinci could think of the next stage in technology, but that would not come in another couple hundred years. Now the next stage in technology is only a decade or two away.
I don’t believe there is a modern day Da Vinci. This is because the time period Da Vinci lived in and made his inventions and discoveries in was nowhere near as advanced as the society we live in today. He had no equipment, no technology, and little of the prior knowledge that we maintain today. We have so much knowledge about the world we live in and have access to such a broad variety of tools and technology that it would be nearly impossible to achieve important discoveries and create significant inventions in several different fields as Da Vinci did. For example, Da Vinci designed a successful glider before the concept of humans flying was even acted upon. He also made significant engineering contributions, such as the cross bow and scientific contributions such as the drawings of the heart, aorta, and muscle system. Not only did he have significant drawings, but they are all proven to either work or proven to be accurate by today’s technology. There is no way anyone today could set such significant and numerous precedents because there is too much information we already know and have applied to the world we live in. Therefore, if a discovery or significant invention was produced today, it would be so minimal that it would hardly compare to Da Vinci’s work. Overall, Da Vinci was truly ahead of his time and would be impossible to surpass in the world we live in today.
I believe that there is no one today that can even come close to the genius of Da Vinci. He was so far ahead of his time that it would be ridiculous for someone to claim that they are the modern day Leonardo Da Vinci. He had thousands of drawings of machines, bodies, and so much more. He worked in anatomy, engineering, architecture, art, science, and of course was an inventor.
For example he sketched robotic arms that are the basis for medical mechanical arms today. Medicine was still in the dark ages when he lived, sanitation was and issue and he was creating medical robots. Da Vinci was obsessed with the human body; he studied it and was able to come out with an accurate drawing of a human body, muscles, skeleton and all, that are still used today. Also, his obsession with flight was centuries ahead of his time. When tested the flight machine he designed worked time after time. Had he lived to actually build it, flight might have taken a different course or we might have been farther along today. And this was all centuries before the Wright Brothers.
I agreed with the point made about technology in an earlier post, I definitely think that because technology is more available today advances are made in a shorter time frame. Where as Da Vinci had basically nothing to go on except his experiments.
I definitely think that no one today is thinking as far in advance as Da Vinci did, even though he may not have known it. Today people are more concerned with fixing the now rather than discovering the future.
I believe that it is improbable for there to be a modern day Da Vinci. Da Vinci was brilliant, and advanced so many fields of science and math, surpassing anyone’s knowledge in that time and even that of those 300-500 years in the future. He made countless contributions to society, that were light years beyond their time, some of his ideas were so advanced for the time that the Church told him to stop when he wanted to make artificial life, or that needed today’s technology to accomplish. For instance, 500 years prior to the discovery 18 years ago of the way the aorta pumps blood through the heart, Da Vinci conceived a similar experiment to find the same thing. Not only the time difference between his discovery and the rediscovery is that at the time the circulation of blood through the body was unknown, he came across this idea through nature. Having this idea, he created a way to validate it with his limited resources and knowledge of the time. The findings of today, with such modern technology, replicate his results. This is seen repeatedly through all of his works: the hang glider that simulated better flight that that of the Wright Brother’s machine, his invention of technical drawings used in engineering and architecture today, even his drawings of anatomy are still used today. Da Vinci was the Renaissance man, who could not draw something unless he understood it, exploring concepts way before their time. Da Vinci stove to understand, while we still strive to understand everything he did and who he was. All of his work has truly enhanced our knowledge of the entire world. If there was a modern Da Vinci today, I believe it is unlikely for he or she to be able to advance our knowledge to the same extent Da Vinci achieved, due to the fact of the amount of our technology, inventions, and knowledge seems to increase exponentially as it is. If there was such a person, it would probably not be in so many fields of study as Da Vinci contributed to. I also think that we would not know of the modern day Da Vinci until long after he had died, and people were finally able to understand his ideas. Da Vinci, was known throughout Europe for his talents, but the connotation we hold to his name today is much more praising then probably at that time. People at that time, could not understand the vast knowledge he amassed. In the same way, if there was a modern day Da Vinci, we would not know till much later in the future. In conclusion, if there was a modern day Da Vinci, it is not feasible for him or her to contribute as much knowledge to society as Da Vinci did, and we would not know until much later in the future
Leonardo Da Vinci stands out among all other inventors, artists, and scientists of the past. He lived an exceptional life and his contributions to modern mechanics as well as his countless experiments and volumes of research attest his incomparable brilliance. I believe that Leonardo Da Vinci is a man without an equal. I cannot say that in the future there will not be another individual that may prove to be a modern day Da Vinci, but I seriously doubt this possibility. Today, there is not any one person that I feel matches his genius and will be looked at in the same way; I don’t truly believe that anyone will ever be looked at in the same way. Leonardo Da Vinci was a man unlike any other. He was centuries ahead of his time, and he possessed extraordinary gifts of deductive reasoning and intuition. Many great minds grace this planet, but Da Vinci’s thoughts and ideas were extraordinary; his mind was God-given and the way in which he applied it is singular to him as an individual. Da Vinici’s ideas swirled in his head until he could stand them no longer, and he had to explore them and know more.
Da Vinci will also remain unmatched because of his combination of nature and man. He lived during a very simple time period in terms of science and invention, but Da Vinci used this simplicity to his advantage. By studying birds and dissecting humans and animals, he observed the mechanics of flight and the anatomy of the human body. Today, science has become high-tech, and we have moved away from nature. Da Vinci’s studies however enabled him to create a flying machine that was possibly even more successful than the Wright Brothers’ airplane nearly 400 years before the Wright Brothers lived. Da Vinci also saw nature and art as one. His Mona Lisa was anatomically accurate right down to the muscles used to form her famous smile. Not many see things the way Da Vinci did, and I don’t think another person ever will. Modern advances today even derive from Da Vinci, making it almost impossible to be as inventive as he was. The surgical robot for example is called The Da Vinci System. Its creator should rightly be hailed for his brilliance, but Da Vinci was behind it in the end, and he will be the one that is remembered.
Technological advances in America are rapidly progressing. Combined ideas have built upon themselves. Unlimited information is available to the general public through the internet. Because of this, the general population has a heightened awareness of the world, its issues, and possible solutions. Because of this, it would be impossible to say that there is a modern day Da Vinci.
Da Vinci was an innovator hundreds of years ahead of his time. He lived in an atmosphere that was sheltered and unaware of ideas and inventions occurring around the world. Da Vinci was an exceptional individual who was able to synthesize an understanding of the world, and applied this to his inventions, without having influence from a vast wealth of knowledge. This is what makes him a truly appreciated genius; all of his discoveries were based on what he found out about the natural world around him.
There is no modern day Da Vinci because the public as a collective whole is more knowledgeable than it was in his time. Ideas are shared easily and are made accessible. People who wish to introduce new concepts to society commonly work with others to develop their ideas, and have been influenced by academic institutions. The originality and conception of ideas that Da Vinci was able to experience make him a completely unique figure in history. It is doubtful that anyone else will be recognized for brilliance as great as his.
I don't think that there has been anyone even close to Da Vinci. He was brilliant and centuries ahead of his time. His creation of flight with less technology and less resources is amazing. His design not only was ahead of its time, but it was also better then the Wright brother's first flying machine. And the fact that we only have a quarter of his work and just in that quarter we have found many designs ahead of its time. The three quarters we don't have must have outstanding discoveries, perhaps something we don't even have yet. His invention of technical drawings also has a huge impact on today. We have always used them and they have allowed great discoveries to be made, so he has partial credit for all those findings. Overall there is not a modern Da Vinci.
I do not believe that there is a modern day Leonardo Da Vinci. He was a brilliant man that was centuries ahead of his time with all of his inventions, architectural designs, paintings, and anatomical studies. There is no man alive today that has such a vast knowledge of many different fields like Da Vinci had. Many of the inventions and machines he created are very similar to inventions still used today, and he made his inventions in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. One of his inventions was a flyer that he designed but was never tested during his lifetime. In the video a team of people made the flyer to Da Vinci’s specifications and it flew for a long distance for a flyer invented in the late 15th century. Many people thought that the Wright brothers were ahead of their time, but Da Vinci made his flyer almost four centuries before their invention. Many of Da Vinci’s anatomical drawings of the human body are also still used today because of their extreme accuracy and his attention to detail. It’s hard to believe that one man could be so ahead of his time and there has been no one since him that can even come close to his intellect.
I think it is very unlikely that there will be a modern day Leonardo Da Vinci because of his legacy. Most modern day professions draw their inspiration from him, such as the fields of heart surgery, aviation, and warfare. He had so many inventions and ideas that it was impossible to follow his groundbreaking achievements when he was alive. We are barely catching up today. He studied so much and had so many revolutionary ideas that even professionals today are amazed at his insight and knowledge. He ventured into so many fields, such as architecture, artist, sculptor, engineer, and many more. A person that tried to specialize in so many fields today would surely not be able to take the pressure or expectations. This brings up another good point, as Da Vinci had very little competition during his time period, so he had no rivals. He was able to work at his own pace and set his own expectations. However, his brilliance is still unmatched today. For example, in the video we watched, creating Da Vinci's vision of flight caused much frustration. The engineers tried to stick to his designs, but they had to stray from some of his ideas because they believed that it would benefit the invention. When they failed, they realized that his plan would have worked more successfully, and they realized his unmatched level of intelligence. So many of the pioneers that we are familiar with today and in the past have drawn their inspiration from Da Vinci many times. Without this wonderful man, the technology-centered life we live today would be much different. There is no individual before or since him that could compare to his cleverness and aptitude.
Leonardo Da Vinci lived from 1452 to 1519, was about five centuries before our time. At this time information was scarce due to constant Church regulation on science and education. So consequently the great minds of the time were not as knowledgeable as the intellects of modern day. However what makes Leonardo Da Vinci special was that he was well rounded in intellect. He was chiefly a painter, as his most famous work was the Mona Lisa. Yet, he was also a sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. Just saying all his professions is a boat load. I do not have to ability to compare him to any person of modern day, although I view his as a super computer. His mind was a center of ideas and much information. I can most likely say, however, that there are smarter people than him, just not as well rounded in the fields. If we move back in time I can compare Da Vinci to Aristotle. He was considered a man of much knowledge and almost all knowing, in ancient Greece. However, back to the main topic. Quantitatively speaking Da Vinci contained an “abnormal” share of the knowledge at the time, so he stood out among others of his time. This does not necessarily mean smarter or more capable than people of modern day. The growth of knowledge can be closely related to Moore’s law which measures the growth of computing hardware. So that concludes my answer to the question: there is no one I can compare to Da Vinci from present day.

I don’t feel that anyone can be looked at in the same light as Da Vinci. He was a scholar, artist, inventor, biologist, architect, and engineer no one has that kind of resume in recent history. Da Vinci came up with artistic masterpieces like the Mona Lisa while at the same time drawing up some war machine. No one person has added so much to so many fields of learning as Da Vinci had in his time. Da Vinci’s abilities have been unmatched due to the sheer complexity of what he did with so little. With only rudimentary tools and the less than accurate beliefs at the time he uncovered things that few people could prove until just a few years ago.
No one has had the reasoning skills or the creativity since Da Vinci. He was not only one of the top artists of his time but he was and is the best inventor who ever lived. No one can do what he did he was so multi talented anyone in modern times would be pushed to the limit trying to learn in all the fields that he did. Also factor in how little he had to work with. We have computers, MRIs, and a myriad of other devices that can help us understand the body and yet Da Vinci was able to create some of the best drawings of the human muscle structure and even draw up plans for a replacement heart valve, a task difficult for the geniuses of today. So the question is there anyone like Da Vinci has the answer of no because he is in a league all his own.
First of all, I think it is impossible to compare Leonardo Da Vinci to anyone in the modern day, simply because time is the true test of knowledge. There was no way for anyone to test Da Vinci’s theories until recently, so for 500 years, he was just some guy with some weird paintings. If someone drew a teleporter, but the drawing couldn’t be built for another 500 years, than for 500 years that person would be a weird nerd that nobody cared about. As soon as it was proven that the teleporter worked, everyone would think that he/she was a genius. Basically, there is no way to see if anyone in the modern ages would be Da Vinci because there is no way to test for one.
But Da Vinci also proved to be a master of many areas of study, including engineering, art, and mathematics, which could narrow down the search for the next Da Vinci. Not many people (in fact, I can’t even think of any) can be considered the head of more than one field of study. Nowadays, with the advent of specialized fields of study and the immense amount of knowledge contained in any single field, being able to be called in expert in multiple ones is virtually impossible. Being able to invent and discover new things hundreds of years in advance as Da Vinci did, and do it in so many diverse fields is extremely difficult and incredibly unlikely, but only time will tell if a modern day Da Vinci is living among us.
I don’t believe that any one in the modern day has reached and achieved what DaVinci did in his day. He was about four centuries ahead of his time. His works are still very highly regarded in the fields that he studied, and a lot of times used as references.
I do believe that in this modern day there are some people that have and/or will come close to the hype and achievements that DaVinci has. People like Jim Jobs, and Bill Gates who have achieved huge and major breakthroughs in computer technology throughout the late 20th century and into the present. I feel that some day they might be regarded almost as highly as Leonardo is today.
Da Vinci was probably one of the most innovative inventor and artist history. His descriptions of anatomy and blood circulation were way before his time. His inventions were by renaissance times standards futuristic to an extreme. However he also contributes to art which gives him an advantage over most scientists and painters of today’s age rather than focus on one aspect he spreads his knowledge onto an array of topics. Not only did De Vinci invent or draw state of the art inventions he drew anatomically correct pictures and painted works of art thought of as masterpieces as well. If you took a painter of the street and asked him to design a new flying glider he would not know where to start. If you took a doctor gave him a brush and a canvas to paint on he would most likely be unable to paint anything of any value. Da Vinci had a few advantages over today’s intellectuals. One advantage was the lack of previous inventions and medical studies that gave Da Vinci an open field to work with in today’s world there is very little room for improvement. His second advantage were the policies of his time the idea that every intellect must study multiple fields today‘s men and women usually specialize in one field. Even if there was a super innovator of out time we would not know for thousands of years. if said persons inferences are based on fact or fiction such as quantum theory and the idea of teleportation or perpetual motion machines. Will there ever be another Da Vinci? I believe it highly unlikely as time goes on there will be less and less room for innovation. As for a modern Da Vinci I believe it also unlikely there is a modern innovator especially one with basis in so many fields.
Personally, I don’t believe there is a modern day Da Vinci. Da Vinci obtained knowledge that was way beyond any other mind at the time, and even today. He was creative in thought and was able to apply his ideas to the world itself. Everything he created was a true piece of art. He was an architect, artist, engineer, painter, sculpture, scholar, and a lot more. He had a great interest in how things work. Whether it be in simple machines or even the human heart, Da Vinci had a persistent mind. He had a great obsession with the human body. His discovery on how blood flows through the heart has proven to be helpful in the medical field today. One of the most impacting ideas would include the Vitruvian man; His design of the human body, with its typical dimensions and appearance. The image is continually referenced today and is on one side of the Italian euro coin. It is also seen as a patch on the right shoulder of the extravehicular mobility unit space suit used by NASA. Also, Da Vinci successfully designed a glider way before the concept of flying was even invented. He beat the Wright brothers to it, regardless of them knowing that or not. Basically everything he studied and invented was proven to be a success. The fact that his inventions and art works are still recognized today is truly amazing. This just shows the impact Da Vinci had in this world. His ideas lay down the foundation for many people’s studies today. He had limited technology at the time, yet, he created the most complex things. There is no other way to explain in words the impact Da Vinci had on this world. He was clearly a multi-talented man and no person today would be able to create things or even begin to think like Da Vinci once did.
Da Vinci was a man who was thirsty for knowledge and understanding how things worked around him. Of course anybody can have the same desire to learn like Da Vinci. But what is so impressive is that he took the initiative to observe, hypothesize, experiment, and make a conclusion. Where as people today have access to information on any subject. We don’t need to struggle as hard into understanding the world around us because it has been actually researched for us so we can be taught. Da Vinci as stated before was basically going through the scientific method to understand what was going on in the world. He didn’t have anybody to teach him so he had to find it all out himself. He was making scientific progress for the world and he was inventing new technology that we use today. His diaries have models of inventions we use today such as the bicycle, helicopter, firearms, hydraulics, etc. So no there probably won’t be another Da Vinci in our time or ever again. But that may be due to the fact that technology is at such a point that we are dependent on it. Where as when Da Vinci was alive technological advancements were shunned since the church said that only God can create and destroy. It may be that the man who discovered the basics will be more famous than the man who invents from the basics.
There is no doubt that Leonardo Davinci was the most influential master of Renaissance ideals. Not only was he highly influential in his time, his ideas are still impressive to this day. Davinci dabbled in many things from art to science to war. His Mona Lisa may be the most enigmatic work in history. His distaste of war did not prevent him from coming up with massive siege weapons and the precursors to modern tanks and other war machines. His design for the flying was the most advanced design for centuries, even more impressive than the Wright Brothers flying machines. The design is almost identical to the modern day aerofoil, only 500 years older. Also highly impressive was Davinci’s drawings on human anatomy. His drawings of body parts such as the shoulder are highly accurate even today. His design of heart valves, with biocompatible materials, would have worked in heart transplants 500 years ago and today. Davinci was the ideal Renaissance man who excelled at everything he did, which was everything.
Although we have many great inventors and scientist today, no one can be considered the modern Davinci. No one has been able to do as many things to such great a depth as Leonardo did. The closest person you could compare to Davinci might be Steve Jobs, and that’s not even close. Jobs turned a room full of machines that was one computer into a handheld touch screen machine that was not only a computer, but a phone, internet, and anything else you could need in 30 years. That achievement is astonishing but is still nothing compared to Davinci. Davinci made huge leaps in almost every field during his life, not just one, and he did it alone, not with a team of experts. There has yet to be a second Davinci and I doubt there ever will be.
How can there be a modern Da Vinci when he was a man who despite the time period he lived in discovered things that modern scientists and scholars are just beginning to understand now. Not one person in the world today has made as many breakthrough discoveries that Da Vinci did. Another reason why no one could even come close to being compared to Da Vinci is because he was advanced in so many subjects, for example art, science, engineering, along with many others. The modern times have scientists who specialize in a specific type of science and engineers who specialize in a specific type of engineering. Everyone in the 21st century is too specialized in 1 field to compare to Da Vinci. Da Vinci was accomplished in science, engineering, and art. To even attempt to compare any modern accomplished person to Da Vinci is absurd for he did so many things that were way ahead of his time. For a modern person to be compared to Da Vinci they would need to discover the cure for cancer and be the first person on mars, because in my opinion some of Da Vinci’s breakthroughs discoveries are equivalent to these breakthroughs in the modern world.
There is no one who in the future will be looked at in the same way as we view Da Vinci. Da Vinci was light years ahead of his time. Through great observation Da Vinci was able to not just understand how the muscles and joints of the human body worked he was able to draw them. He did this without the use of modern imaging technology and was still very accurate. Other scientists may have been able to come up with the ideas that Da Vinci was able to come up with but he is the only scientist to come up with the ideas and to be able to accurately draw what was happening. Stephen Hawking is a very smart individual but he never had the skill that Da Vinci had in drawing exactly what he wanted. Hawking also benefits from the advanced scientific method which creates groundwork on scientific discover what Da Vinci never benefitted from. When Da Vinci made an invention he used very detailed drawings. These drawings developed into technical drawings. Da Vinci was yet again ahead of his time. Technical drawings seem so basic an idea now but truly are and innovative idea because it sets a common medium for inventers to display their works.
We will also never see another Da Vinci because our understanding of the world is increasing at a much faster pace than it was in the 15th century. The amount of information created from the beginning of time to 2000 is created today. It is impossible for one person to create so much information on such a broad scale as Da Vinci did without someone discovering it. Da Vinci was a brilliant person and will never be matched again.
There has only ever been one Leonardo Da Vinci and most likely there will always be only one. I don't think there has ever been anyone with the same level of insight into the world and so much thirst for knowledge and truth without all the bias. However, even though i don't think that there is one person as his equivalent, i do think that if today's modern day scientists, inventors, and artists are all put together, they have acheived the same level of advancements and knowledge that Da Vinci acheived so long ago. All together our scientists, inventors, and artists, inspired by Da Vinci's work have achieved a world that he probably dreamed of, but never got the chance to see. Our world today is just so focused on everybody specializing in one field, limiting peoples array of knowledge, whereas Da Vinci explored anything that happened to be on his mind, from aeronautics to anatomy. He was so ahead of his time that he was able to come up with a hang glider equivalent if not better than that of the Wright brothers hundreds of years later. He even drew amazingly accurate sketches of the human anatomy that took the human population centuries to sketch the same images. In fact, he would have laughed at our colonial ancestor's theory of humors and definetly at thier medical practices. In no way has there been such an equivalent, but also in a way we do have groups of intellects and if their acheivements were all categorized together, have acheived the level of Leonardo. In this sense he is the equivalent of not one person, but of all the worlds greatest minds. There never was nor will be anyone as in sync with nature and as filled with knowledge as Leonardo Da Vinci.
There is no one in our time that may be looked upon in the same way as Da Vinci, and there is a possibility that no one may ever be as successful as him. Making contributions in diverse fields, Da Vinci was a spectacular innovator and artist. He drew thousands of sketches that showed various types of new and useful creations, as well as extremely informative pictures of different aspects of the human body that were never seen before. By performing experiments, including controversial dissections of humans, Da Vinci was able to capture the human anatomy in a very effective manner. In addition, his drawings and sketches have amazed and influenced people of all ages throughout the course of the past hundreds of years. His work has greatly improved life for many, including knowledge about human organs. He has also contributed artistic masterpieces to the art world, which has led to education and enjoyment in art. This includes one of the most famous (if not the most famous) works of art ever created, the Mona Lisa. Da Vinci perfected the study of the human, such as the facial structure, and applied that research to his art. This scientific brilliance shows his skill and dedication to his studies. Da Vinci was able to make tons of advancements in science and art, which make him unable to be replaced. No one is able have the same impact on the current society and future. It is unthinkable of how much Da Vinci achieved in such a short time, showing how much of a remarkable figure he really was.
There is not anyone who resembles a modern day Da Vinci. Da Vinci lived in a time where most fields of science were heresy, so he was fairly alone in all of his studies. That being said, the way he pioneered all of them was phenomenal. It is almost inconceivable that any one person could achieve so much in a single lifetime. Many modern scientists make technological advances by building off the achievements of others, so that knowledge grows exponentially. However, Da Vinci amassed all of his knowledge by meticulous research and hard work. In addition, the fact that any of this work is still accepted as true and accurate hundreds of years later indicates that Da Vinci was an incredibly advanced mind. While there are many scientists, artists, and engineers that may still be recognized hundreds of years in the future, most only contribute to a single field. By sheer volume of works, all of which were well above average for the time period, there is clearly no one who can match him. There is no single modern day person who has made so many contributions to so many different fields that Da Vinci did. Da Vinci was even hampered by the handicap that many of his ideas could be considered heresy in some way or another, so research would have been that much harder. We also don’t have the majority of his notebooks in their entirety. If the knowledge we possess about his works is only a fraction, then the parts either destroyed or yet to be discovered must add to it considerably. Because of all these factors, no one today could be considered a modern day Da Vinci.
I don’t really think there’s going to be another Da Vinci, and I’m certainly sure there isn’t one now. Not only was Da Vinci a fantastic painter and sculptor, but he also created fantastical designs for things that hadn’t even really been considered at the time. He drew a design for a glider based on studies he did regarding birds and their flight patterns as a way to continue his ever-pressing dream of flight. Few people really care about nature anymore besides extreme tree-huggers, and the only way most people seem to really care about flight is in the clunky tin-cans we call planes. We don’t have a Da Vinci, not only because we lack somebody with the sheer genius and ideas hundreds of years ahead of his time, but we also seem to lack somebody with a real appreciation for nature and life as being beautiful. He was also well-rounded, making breakthroughs in art, invention in general, medicine, nature, and more. Today we don’t have anyone who’s as well-rounded, fascinated by life, or so visionary and advanced. Nobody in our time has so far tried to take such drastic steps or make such drastic ideas. We still have a chance for another Da Vinci, although I feel like anyone else who tries just won’t measure up.
Even though we have great technologies and are able to perform fascinating tasks, I still believe that no one has achieved the title of a “modern day Da Vinci.” Da Vinci’s work was extremely precise; his drawings of the human body are still used today. I find it hard to comprehend how many ideas Da Vinci produced, and still wonder what he would have done if he had not died so early. The hundreds of thousands of sketches he created rival present day diagrams and had the work he created been preserved better, I cannot fathom how much better science would be today. Because most of his work was destroyed by the church, one can infer that those sketches diagramed science, which the church fought against. It’s intriguing how one man managed to manifest so many ideas at once. Many modern inventions, such as the airplane, which we credit to later figures, were actually planned out by Da Vinci hundreds of years ago.
One of the major reasons I think that there is no modern day Da Vinci is because most of the common discoveries are already made. As human knowledge increases, there eventually becomes less and less new information. Due to the vast amounts and strength of technology, most of the basic and important ideas have already been thought of. However, this is not to discredit Leonardo Da Vinci, because he clearly still made a major impact in human history.
The most influential part of Da Vinci and why he is set apart from everyone else is because he had diverse skills. Instead of just being an engineer, he was also an artist, scientist, mathematician, and countless other professions. I cannot imagine anyone who can master a variety of fields like Da Vinci.
Although there have been many genius minds that have rivaled that of Leonardo DaVinci’s I feel that as each century passes, and with each new discovery, it makes it harder for any single person to make as much of an impact as he did. He was light years ahead of his time, drawing out diagrams for inventions that won’t be “discovered” centuries later. Davinci definitely had the benefit of having time on his side. Because his discoveries were in the beginning where there were still a lot of mysteries, he almost had more things he could discover in a way. And in that period where not everyone got an education, he immediately had the upper hand. Furthermore, if you compare that time period to that of us today, you see that while he was funded by patrons, the research he did was for himself. Today however, we have much of the brightest minds hired out to companies to work for a name. So even if someone were to be able to discover something amazing, he/she may not necessarily be accredited for it because it would have been part of a group effort. No one can afford to conduct the experiments they do today on their own while DaVinci was able to study simpler flights of birds in order to grasp more knowledge.
Furthermore, it is quite impossible for someone to be a studied as much as DaVinci was. Although it may be possible, it is unlikely any one person would be able to devote him/her self to be studied in as much fields such as: music, math, architecture, anatomy, science, inventor, and artist – at least not to the same level above everyone else’s as compared to over 500 years ago. Leonardo DaVinci is held as such an amazing aspect of our history for a reason. There will never be anyone that can or will be able to hold a candle up to him.
I feel like the closest person that today's world has to DaVinci is Stephen Hawking. Although DaVinci was a painter, an inventor, architect, and engineer and contributed so vastly to so many fields I think that Hawking's understanding of advanced mathematics, cosmology, and quantum physics almost as valuable. DaVinci was certainly a renaissance man, he embodied the scientific advancements of the time and his ideas, sketches, and inventions are still impressive and were only rediscovered by modern day science for example his idea that blood pumped through the body in a vortex-swirl or body compatible objects like heart valves, indeed his knowledge of the body was revolutionary for the time and also allowed him to create realistic masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. He invented feasible tanks and weapons of was that would not exist for centuries after they were drawn, and invented a glider that could out do that of the Wright brothers. And of course he invented the technical drawing, which may be his single greatest idea. The reason why I single out Stephen Hawking as the closest person we have to DaVinci today is because of his genius and understanding of the natural world, the only difference between the perceptions of the two is Hawking's familiarity with gravity, atomic particles, space, and spacetime as opposed to DaVinci deriving his creations from nature. I think one of the most striking similarities between the two men is how both were handicapped in one way or another, Hawking with paralysis and DaVinci with the church especially limiting his study of human corpses. I think it is also true of the two that they were ahead of their time and the value of Hawking's contributions, like DaVinci's, will not be recognized until centuries later. For example, Hawking is now making hypothesis on the definite existence of aliens and their effects on man as well as theorems on blackholes that can not even be seen let alone understood by the average modern man. To conclude, DaVinci's technical and knowledgeable prowess is hard to rival and it is almost impossible to compare any other person to him because of his unusual ability in such a wide variety of fields; however, Hawking and DaVinci were both men beyond their time and are somehow limited by that fact but I think Hawking will be viewed in the future much as DaVinci is now which is a man helping expand human knowledge of the universe and nature.
Even the suggestion that a modern day Da Vinci seems nearly..preposterous. Da Vinci was literally half a millennium ahead of his time. Taking a brief look at the notable figures around us, none of them seem to have developed ideas that will still be extremely relevant half a millennium ago. Yes, we as a people have exceptional technology around us developed by people with exceptional intelligence. However, it still can't compare to the genius of Da Vinci. To figure out things like the swirling of blood through the blood in a vortex manner would be nigh impossible to figure out, and even today, scientists still had trouble figuring it out. Without the use of any technological aids, Da Vinci figured it out by himself, and even designed an experiment to test it. The amount of insight, intellect and creativity required to do such things are beyond comprehension. Also what must be taken into account were the circumstances Da Vinci worked in. Science was not a respected field of research, and much of it could be potentially declared heresy by the church. Not to mention that Da Vinci lacked the modern day instruments and knowledge that we have today. Even without that he managed to design something that flies. These few examples while sparse clearly show that Da Vinci was not just head and shoulders above his contemporaries, but even above anyone that is alive right now as well.
Leonardo Da Vinci is, by far, the most prolific inventor in western history. The size and scope of his works is nearly unimaginable. As the epitome of Renaissance thinkers, Da Vinci pursued studies in anatomy, warfare, engineering, mathematics, art, physics (especially those of flight), and many more fields. More often than not, Leonardo would introduce topics and findings never before imagined, setting the groundwork for later discoveries and technologies; many of his findings were only confirmed within the last half-century, using modern technology! Although there are many thinkers and scientists who have since proved or surpassed his works, no one in modern times can be said to be Da Vinci’s equal, for no one has been so masterful in such a multitude of works. Stephen Hawking may be a more advanced physicist, and some artists may be deemed to be more technically proficient and influential, but no one can be said to be a master of several different disciplines like Leonardo was. Leonardo’s works have often been used by great minds as the basis of their studies; modern day doctors regard his anatomical drawings as accurate and usable, even in this day and age. Furthermore, discoveries of this time can be simulated and proven with advanced technology; Da Vinci, lacking this advantage, performed all of his calculations and tests by hand and on paper. In all of history, there is only one person I considered to be even close to Da Vinci in their prowess. That man is Benjamin Franklin. A capable statesman, author, experimental scientist, musician, and philosopher, Franklin was a jack-of-all-trades, much like Da Vinci, and was ahead of his time in many areas. For example, he was one of the first people to suggest the modern system of daylight savings, arguing that it would save people much of the money spent on candle wax each year. But for all of his impressive feats, not even Franklin quite compares to the overwhelming amount of work done by Da Vinci. I can think of no one in our time that posterity will be able to hold in the same light to Leonardo Da Vinci.
I do not think anyone in our time is even close to the intellect of Leonardo Da Vinci. Da Vinci was a man whose genius was beyond the realm of his time in numerous fields such as art, engineering, medicine, and many others. One of the world’s most famous paintings known was created by him, The Mona Lisa, which still marvels the artists of today. His engineering was so advanced, he had to come up with new artistic methods to portray the elaborate details of his discoveries. His artistic abilities also allowed him to clearly indicate his understanding of the human body and its anatomy. His far-reaching works in how the human body operated was as accurate as the current medical technology demonstrates. Da Vinci’s drawings and commentary on the heart in his books astounds surgeons with its preciseness. Da Vinci experimented and dissected human bodies in sync with the methods being used now; this goes to show only a single example of his mind blowing intellectual capacity. The amount of work he did was so extensive, it is unbelievable how one man could bring about so much in his lifetime with such futuristic knowledge. It is also appalling to learn the fact that the works being appreciated today are only a fraction of what he truly accomplished. Perhaps if we had all of Da Vinci’s pieces, which were all safely kept and not lost as they are, what else did Da Vinci know? There is no person like this man; his contributions to various fields are so on par with today’s technology. Da Vinci was a genius discoverer who explored centuries ahead of his time, is there a person like this today? Most likely not considering how much modern technology has allowed us to shape such a highly developed world.

Da Vinci may have been considered an outcast and even a heretic during his time, but now we consider him the greatest innovator, artist, and intellect in maybe all of history. There are so many creations that are entirely due to him. He developed a system of observation for the way he did his research. In addition to this method for which he did he research, he also discovered many of the innovations it took modern scientists until hundreds of years later to create. He studied nature, and even dissected bodies to make his discoveries. He knew much about the human body, for example, heart functions, that modern scientists just discovered in the last century. The Wright brothers created their flight contraption in the twentieth century, and Da Vinci made his designs centuries previous to that. He was so far ahead of his time that it took us until very modern times to understand the extent of his research.
Today, we recognize just how much he did, and we do not even have his entire works. It is likely that we will never have another Da Vinci. He was centuries ahead of his time, and was one of the few during his age to not blindly follow the Church and other primitive social customs. Today, people are more accepted for being different, and are even praised for creativity and individuality, not pronounced heretics. Now everyone is given these kinds of opportunities, but Da Vinci had to make them for himself and devote his life to those inventions on his own terms. Today, all of the brilliant scientists in the world may make advancements as a whole, but Da Vinci created many of man’s greatest achievements on his own. With the environment we live in today it is extremely unlikely that we will ever see another like Da Vinci.
I do not believe that there is a modern day Da Vinci. Da Vinci was a man that was far more advanced than his time in so many areas. His paintings were beautiful, and to this day have yet to be rivaled. Also, his work with the human body is still used today. A feat that caught me by suprise, especially since all of the technology we now have. To use the work of a man who simply disected hearts and used forces of nature such as vortexs to explain the flow of blood out of the heart is simply amazing. Also, he was one of the time's most prominent inventor. We just recently found out that if he had completed his flying machine to the blue prints, it would have flown. And he came centuries before the Wright Brothers. The fact that he has done so many things in so many fields of work is amazing to me. And there is no one in today's time that seems to be nearly as advanced as Da Vinci was. In my mind there will never be a man that can rival what he did for his time period.
In the 21st Century, there is no one who can be compared to Leonardo Da Vinci. The level of intelligence that Da Vinci had was so rare that a person like him only lives every 1000 years. He formulated plans and theories on all types of sciences and art. A few examples are anatomy, aerodynamics, and hydrodynamics. Da Vinci was also renowned for his technological inventions. He envisioned the tank centuries before the British did during World War I. Da Vinci also made considerable contributions to the study of anatomy. He was able to accurately draw what a heart valve looked like without the x-ray. He was also one of the first to draw a human fetus. There is currently no known person who would be able to conceive of ideas similar to how Da Vinci had. Da Vinci has no modern day rival because he was able to accurately and logically create ideas that would be actual inventions centuries later; his insight was one of a kind. His achievements are endless; unfortunately, most will never be known since nearly all of his drawings are lost.
He was a man who was born to the wrong century and because of this, his ideas weren’t as embraced as they are now. Though this can be said of people in the 21st Century; the drawings and inventions we hear or see about now could be thought of as ludicrous while in 100 years from now they would be studied by scholars and highly praised. As of now, there is no modern day Da Vinci because Leonardo Da Vinci had a mind of a true genius. His creations whether it was the Mona Lisa or the concept of a tank are all celebrated for its own purpose. The vast majority of his works are notorious for its brilliance. There is no one currently on Earth that has that many achievements seen as magnum opuses.
Leonardo Da Vinci was an extraordinary man with great talent in many different aspects of life, such as the arts, the sciences, and much more. His artistic achievements, namely the Mona Lisa, became highlights of the Renaissance. Unlike other artists, however, Da Vinci was influencial in many other subjects. He invented the sling-shot, and he was the first to suggest flight for humans. His inventions are remarkable, for he made blueprints of the first cannon and other war weapons yet unknown at the time. He was an anatomical genius, and predicted how the heart worked correctly almost five centuries before it was a confirmed fact. He started new types of drawing to accomodate his knowledge of the human body, carefully sketching muscles and bones. Leonardo Da Vinci was indeed a genius, exploring areas of knowledge in a time when much of his knowledge were tabboo subjects. There is no man since Da Vinci who has proven to be as remarkable as him, for Da Vinci was just too extraordinary a person. Considering the fact that little, about only 20%, of his works are actually intact and known, one can wonder just what other revolutionary ideas Da Vinci had in his lifetime. No man since Da Vinci has matched his accomplishments and intellect.
I personally do not believe that there is a modern day Da Vinci because Da Vinci was so far ahead of his time period. Da Vinci was successful in architecture, numerous fields of science, and art. The fact that Da Vinci made advancements far ahead of his time is incredibly impressive, but what sets him apart is that he achieved so much in so many fields of practice. For example, he created a design for a glider, which was proven to be successful after his death centuries before the Wright brothers were able to find success in flight. Also, doctors still use the drawings of the human muscles he created today because they were extremely accurate, and still prove useful in medical practices. His most impressive achievement was his discovery of the way in which the heart works. We only began to understand the heart a short time ago, and we needed technology to provide us the answers that was not available to him. Today, there are many people who make advancements in caring for cancer, creating machinery, and discovering how the world works around us. All of these people however, are not as advanced as Da Vinci was for his time, and nobody made or will make the amount of advancements that he did, covering so many aspects of life. The fact that we have built upon our knowledge proves that we know more now than back when Da Vinci lived, so significant discoveries by modern day people will not be as impressive as his work long ago.
Leonardo Da Vinci was undoubtedly one of the greatest minds of his time. He was an artist, scientist, and engineer who studied and advanced a wide range of subjects. History would have struggled very much without the works of Da Vinci. With this, it is easy to say that there is no single person worthy enough to be compared to Da Vinci. While there are figures in history that may have reached the same amount of limelight as Da Vinci, there is no being whose work has impacted the world like Da Vinci. His mindset was far beyond his time; he was willing to question the world around him despite societal barriers. With over 30,000 pages of information pertaining to an array of subjects, Da Vinci became an expert in almost every field he studied. From technological inventions to ground breaking research of the heart, he made himself a very prominent figure. To expand on his research, Da Vinci experimented on most of his theories. He wanted to know whether his hypothesis were accurate or not; and he would not rest until he was satisfied with the results. Of course one can never retain enough knowledge, so Da Vinci may have died with still many, if not more, questions.
With the advanced technology present today, many have gone and tested Da Vinci’s ideas. For example, the hand gliding invention that he had was tested. Engineers wanted to see how accurate Da Vinci’s idea of a ‘flying man’ was. When recreating this flight machine from Da Vinci’s amazingly detailed notes, the ‘flying man’ proved to be successful. It is astonishing how much Da Vinci was able to retain about physics and motion to produce a successful aircraft. This was centuries before the Wright Brothers and yet Da Vinci, with his capacity for knowledge, knew exactly how to craft a machine that could let a human being fly.
Da Vinci has discovered so much that it seems nearly impossible that another being in the future might one day rise up to his level. The amount of knowledge he gave to the world makes one wonder exactly how much more knowledge can be left to discover. Though, as stated before, one can never retain enough knowledge, so just maybe an artist, a researcher, an engineer, or someone entirely different in the future may provide the world with the amount of knowledge Da Vinci has.
Leonardo da Vinci was an exceptional man, He was one of a kind. He was a sculptor, architect, scientist, engineer, painter, and writer. Amazingly, he excelled in all these fields of studies. His ideas are genius and centuries ahead of his time. His works as a painter, architect, and scientist were especially exceptional. With no modern equipment, technology, and knowledge, his works surpasses those of the 20th century. Da Vinci observed and studied the nature. He was able to use his knowledge from studying and dissecting animals and humans to make advancements in flying and studies of the human anatomy. Da Vinci’s design of a flying machine around the late 14th and early 15th century was tested by modern scientists, and said to possibly have been better than that of the Wright’s Brothers, which came about 400 years later. His drawings on the anatomy of the human body (muscles) were anatomically correct and still in use today. He based his drawings on his observations, dissection of the human corpses, and mathematics. His most famous artwork, the Mona Lisa, also possessed anatomical accuracy. Honestly, I don’t believe that anyone from present day can match Da Vinci in any way. He was such a brilliant man who specialized in virtually all fields of studies and excelled in them. Much of his works that survived are still in use today. They are the foundations of modern fields of studies. Da Vinci is truly exceptional and I believe no one can be equal to, and needless to say, surpass Da Vinci in the world we live in today.
I really do not believe there is a modern day Da Vinci, or someone who can even come close to him. He was so far ahead of his own time, it's almost impossible sometimes for me to comprehend that he really was that advanced. He was so dedicated to his studies and he was interested in such a variety of subjects, it's hard to imagine anyone else expanding on those fields nowadays in the way that he did. For example, the fact that we still use his drawings and ideas for medical purposes and engineering today completely amazes me. It makes me wonder that if people from our generation are just using them now, how would we have someone who would in fact rival or even come close to Da Vinci's genius? I think those type of people only come around once in a GREAT while, and we would be lucky to have someone like that today, although I do not think it is likely.
In order to respond to this blog, I literally had to rack my brain for a while to try to think of someone who would be a "modern Da Vinci". I couldn't come up with any, and I think that says something. I'm sure if there was someone like that out there, it would be common knowledge. Also, I would like to think that we would be smart enough now to put their ideas to use (unlike the people of the past who thought Da Vinci's work was corruptive) for our own good. As of right now, I really don't think there is someone who could compare to Da Vinci.
It is my belief that there is no modern day Da Vinci. This is mainly due to the fact that Da Vinci was, in essence, a jack of all trades. He was an excellent writer, philosopher, scientist, biologist, inventor, painter, artist, architect, and held a host of many other skills. Not only did he know many subjects, but he was well versed in all of them, and made incredibly important contributions to each category, many of which are still in use to this day. The name "Da Vinci" is significant in most every subject matter. There are very few people in this day in age who are so utilitarian. One would be hard put to find someone who was as incredibly adept in all arts as Da Vinci was. Part of Da Vinci's fame comes from, I think, the fact that he influenced so many studies.Although there are many incredibly smart people i today's world that contribute greatly to their field of expertise, they often do not contribute as heavily, or at all, to other studies. For example, although Stephen Hawking may be remembered for centuries for his his contributions to science, few painters will be as inspired by him. On the other hand, hundreds of years form now, scientists will still recognize Da Vinci's contributions to anatomy and biology, and painters will recognize his skill in art. Also, Da Vinci was born of an in which learning was very limited and ideas were not as easily spread. Thus, his work is seen to be even more earth-shattering than it is, for it came out of an age of limited learning (not to in any way suggest his work was small or simplistic, for nothing is farther from the truth). Today, however, education and learning is far more widespread, throughout the world and among the social classes. As a result, new contributions do not seem as significant, for they are alongside an enormous wealth of information. Overall, at least in the modern age, Da Vinci stands alone as an intellectual for his multiple contributions in a different world.
I believe that there is no one in this world to have the same intellect and knowledge as Da Vinci did. He looked at the big picture and thought ahead of his time. His ideas were not well known then or appreciated but they were building blocks for the highly civilized world we have now. He was an all-rounded person; a scholar, inventor, biologist, artist, engineer, and architect. There is no one in this world today that has all of these skills or qualities. He looked at the world around him and drew his knowledge from there. He was a painter and the same time an engineer. He painted the great paintings of all time, Mona Lisa, while he also invented great war machines such as cannons and tanks. He studied the human body and organs. He drew pictures of them which help scientists now. He studied plants too which help biologists now. We don’t even know if we have all of his discoveries and research papers as some of them might have been lost because they were passed from generation to generation. It amazes people how much he accomplished in his life. People like Steve Hawkins who are making Da Vinci’s drawings a reality are not even smart as him because Da Vinci was way advanced. Some people don’t realize it but Da Vinci laid the foundation for the future generation. His research and discoveries have had a great impact on society and they will continue to do so in the future. He had many skills and was a master in them. I believe that no one will ever achieve what Da Vinci accomplished.
In my view Da Vinci was a man who was extraordinarily brilliant and no other person in history or in the present can even call themselves a modern day DaVinci. Da Vinci had many designs for experiments that weren’t even contemplated until the last 30-40 years. For example Da Vinci used cadavers to explore the human body and see how it worked and he figured out an invention that would help the heart that was discovered in the 20th century and he lived over 500 years ago. This just goes to show you that Da Vinci was a very complex person. The only way someone would kind of come close to him in terms of his genius is if you created a person with Stephen Hawking’s brain with some artistic mastermind’s brain and it still wouldn’t be enough to equal Da Vinci. Also almost every one of his ideas and inventions were ahead of his time like the hang glider that he designed because he discovered how the wings should be to give appropriate lift to get the glider in the air even before the Wright Brothers. Da Vinci was truly a man that will not have any people in the past, present, or near future that can be compared to him.
Leonardo Da Vinci was one of a kind. I don't believe there is anyone of our time that is as brilliant and accomplished as Leonardo Da Vinci was. Da Vinci was incredibly curious, and he strove to understand as much as possible. He was talented in so many different fields, including art, architecture, anatomy, engineering, and hydrodynamics. His paintings, the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa are two of the most recognized pieces of art in the world. The sketches he made of human anatomy are so accurate that some are still used today. Even his design of a hang glider was proven to be successful, showing that Da Vinci was far ahead of his time. The sheer amount of contributions Da Vinci made to the various fields he studied is unparalleled to anyone of our era. It’s hard to believe that one man accomplished so much. The fact that Da Vinci’s works have remain relevant in today’s modern world shows how genius and extraordinary of a man he was.
From my knowledge, I infer that there is no one in our society who can even come close to matching the prowess of Da Vinci. Some of these include his discovery and accurate sketches of the workings of the heart and was also able to unlock the secrets of flight.
In today's society, there are multiple individuals who contain certain aspects of Da Vinci, but it is difficult to fathom anyone who truly embodies his prowess. For example, research scientists dedicate large quantities of their time in the quest for knowledge with less exposure to society, almost similar to the way Da Vinci shut himself in. In addition, some of these scientists work in fields and attain information that contradicts our beliefs. A few of these fields include the manipulation of the human DNA and stem cell research, which contradicts the morals and religious beliefs of some. This would be similar to Da Vinci's discovery of the human anatomy and his theories that the human body could be built, which contradicts the church's teachings. But in reality, it is not likely that anyone could match his dedication and success to this purpose. His work is so advanced that it still influences and amazes us today. He was so intellectual that nations actually competed to gain his attention. With our growing collection of knowledge, people must specialize in order to be properly educated on the matter. To be well versed in numerous disciplines as Da Vinci was is much more difficult today than back in his time. It would require much more time and dedication, which would also be difficult to find in today's fast paced world of various distractions.
Da Vinci was a man whose insight and problem solving are astounding. He was able to develop accurate theories as to how the blood circulates through the body, and made precise drawings of the human body that are used to this day. He also made significant discoveries regarding human flight. What makes Da Vinci such a remarkable inventor and artist is the fact that he had did not have the sources of influence that we do in modern day.
In current times, people have access to information about anything they want at their fingertips. The population’s awareness and knowledge about the natural world around them is therefore insanely larger than that of society’s understanding in Da Vinci’s time. Although in modern day people have developed amazing technologies that apply to all aspects of life, this rate of invention and ingenious is not comparable to Da Vinci.
In modern day, the inventions being made are simply compounding on the ones made before them. Because people have more access to information, there is less originality in thought, and therefore inventions have basic similarities. Also, in general, landmark inventions are developed by corporations of groups of individuals, which is necessary for a product to be viable and successful in today’s market.
The creativity and originality that Da Vinci possessed cannot be repeated. Because of the context of today’s technologically advanced society, this would be impossible. There is an extremely small chance that someone without the influences of knowledge that circulates around the world is coming up with innovative concepts like Da Vinci did.

No man, or woman, of our time could ever be considered close to Da Vinci's genius. He covered so much in his life that was unimaginably ahead of his time that it's near impossible for any person today to think so far ahead in all the fields he covered. He was a brilliant artist, inventor, and scientist with little to study besides nature around him, and without access to the many tools we have available to us in this era. He was in league with men who discovered what he knew 500 years later, which to me is astounding to try comprehending. I believe Da Vinci is one of a kind, and that no man will be able to match him in our generation.
I do not believe that there is anyone in the modern world that will be looked at like a Leonardo Da Vinci. To begin with he was a genius, and the only people that compare with him are the geniuses of our time, like Albert Einstein or Stephen Hawking. However, although modern day scientists and mathematicians make amazing discoveries, no single person has contributed to such a wide variety of fields as Da Vinci. Modern scientists usually make discoveries that are focused into one field, and the discoveries sometimes have little relevance outside of their field. This is probably because so many advancements have been made that people have to devote their lives just to study all that has already been done, and are usually unable to add much. Sciences have undoubtedly become more difficult, and adding to the sciences is becoming more and more difficult. Da Vinci was able to contribute to sciences as varied as engineering and medicine, and even added to the arts. Few modern scientists can boast that they are also accomplished artists. The amount of work Da Vinci did in each of the fields is also staggering. He wrote hundreds of pages, each full of detailed drawings and tons of information. Historians believe that we have only uncovered a fraction of his work. Another amazing thing is that his work has relevance even today. I have never heard anyone disagree with Da Vinci’s work or say that any of his findings are incorrect. In the video, there was a surgeon who said that Da Vinci was able to come to the same conclusion about the blood flow around the heart that modern scientists came to using advanced technology. Using only primitive technology and his amazing insight, Leonardo was able to reach the same conclusions that scientists today arrive at. This makes me wonder what he could have done if he had access to the technology we have today. These are a few of the reasons that I believe that there is no modern day Da Vinci.
There is no modern day Da Vinci. There is no one who can even come close to what Da Vinci did. Da Vinci was ahead of his time; his work in the sciences and art is still studied and appreciated to this day. The Mona Lisa is the most recognizable painting in the world. Doctors still refer to his anatomical drawings. Historians, artists, and scientists are amazed at his works and at the amount he was able to accomplish in his lifetime. What remains of his notebooks and drawings is amazing, but it is only a fraction of what he really accomplished. Da Vinci's studies covered a wide range of topics and were so advanced that they can still be used today. No one in modern times has accomplished what Da Vinci did, and it is doubtful that anyone in the future will be seen in the same light as Leonardo Da Vinci.

Futhermore, Da Vinci's studies of the human body enabled him to draw extremely detailed pictures and figure out how some of the organs in the human body work, such as the heart. Da Vinci was coming up with ideas that not many others even attempted to figure out, and were not discovered by other scientists until very recently. The scientists today have advanced technology to help them with research and discoveries, Da Vinci did not. Da Vinci's keen eye for detail and relationships in nature allowed him to come up with ideas beyond his time. Therefore, there is not modern day Da Vinci.

His observations of nature allowed him to discover how things, such as the human heart, worked. Scientists did not completely understand how the heart worked until certain technology came along to allow them to get a picture. Da Vinci's ability to notice patterns in nature and connect them to other things was what separates him from scientists today. Da Vinci did not have such technology he only had nature and the observations he took to try and make connections. Da Vinci created hundreds of plans and for inventions that were extremely accurate. Therefore, I don't think that there is anyone that can be considered a modern day Da Vinci, I don't think that many people could make the connections that he did. Da Vinci was a brilliant thinker who cannot be compared to other scientists today.

Many of his ideas and designs from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries are still applicable and appreciated by experts in their respective fields today. Da Vinci’s staggering variety of knowledge and expertise in all of his fields of study are almost unthinkable, and can scarcely be matched by anyone. Da Vinci made pioneer discoveries in many of his fields; even if a contemporary should come to these conclusions, they would no longer be original. Additionally, da Vinci was almost five centuries ahead of his time; this is more difficult to achieve in the modern day. If one expands Moore’s Law of exponential technological growth in computing to the broader field of scientometrics, a similar feat today would be astronomically more difficult. Finally, even if there were an individual with as unique a mind as da Vinci, they may well not be appreciated until much later; although da Vinci was understood to be talented, his entire capacity is still not fully known today. In the age of instant information access, this is less likely, but is a final element to be considered in whether or not da Vinci can be matched by someone today. Leonardo da Vinci was a genius with an extremely rare, possibly unique, mind. This, along with the period he was born into, make it so that he is unmatched by anyone in modern society.
A polymath, inventor, and quintessential “renaissance man”, Leonardo Da Vinci was a mind ahead of his time, and has yet to be equaled in sheer brilliance. His incredible achievements include thousands upon thousands of detailed, intricate, and sophisticated drawings, experiments and theories across a range of disciplines. These papers have stood the test of time in their inventive nature, and were the basis for many of the scientific and technological advancements in the centuries after their creation. In the modern world, there is not a writer, philosopher, scientist, biologist, inventor, painter, artist, architect, or entrepreneur who has given insight or revolutionary ideas to the magnitude or breadth that Da Vinci did. In the video shown during class, a scientist at the foremost of his field in the study of artificial hearts was discussing the same blood flow patterns that Leonardo predicted and possibly proved in his writings. To think that a man using what would today be considered primitive medical tools and knowledge to predict such an important piece of information is remarkable on several levels. Also, his glider design was congruently shown to be quite accurate, successful, and again, leagues ahead of his time. Leonardo Da Vinci produced an expansive wealth of hypotheses and empirical evidence for ideas that were both unheard of during his life as well as incredibly seminal to aeronautics, hydraulics, and anatomy, to name a few, and I personally do not believe that there has been a modern man or woman who would be fitting to call his equal.
There is no modern day person comparable to Da Vinci. He was the quintessential renaissance man, in this I mean that he explored many varied aspects of life. He was an accomplished inventor, philosopher, engineer, artist, architect, and scientist. Today to be considered one of these, much tedious and lengthy education is a prerequisite. However Da Vinci basically taught himself, and drew conclusions from observing nature, which is one factor that contributes to making his work seem so momentous. Da Vinci’s ideas such as the hang-glider, circulation of blood throughout the human body, and his anatomical drawings are still being used and or improved upon in current society. However, a Da Vinci cannot exist in modern society with such advanced technology as we now have. Knowledge on almost every topic imaginable is easily accessible to almost anyone; and so being knowledgeable in many fields is no longer considered to be something extraordinary. During Da Vinci’s time, little was known of the world and its workings, so the grounds were set for him to make profound discoveries. However nowadays, there are little virgin fields of study remaining, so landmark discoveries and inventions are more difficult to make. Da Vinci was the pioneer of many important concepts and ideas that have since his time gained information and developed so far in depth, that scholar’s studies have narrowed so much that they cannot study a broader range of things as Da Vinci did. In order to make a new finding, people have to spend much of their lives working at a specific subject, and therefore, lessening their range of knowledge within other fields. Da Vinci knew a little about most everything, and today most scholars know a lot about few things. It was much easier for Da Vinci to be such a versatile and important person in history because at his time there was much more knowledge open and ready for discovery, and so when he made these discoveries the impact was tremendous. Now we have basically the same ideas being built upon, and inventions are becoming less authentic (for example the snuggie!). Also the world has become much more commercialized and most inventions are made for profit, not because of pure recreational and intellectual interest as was for Da Vinci. Therefore, it is not possible for a modern day Da Vinci to exist because of the technologically ruled lifestyle we live.
I cannot definitively say whether or not there is truly a modern day Da Vinci. However, if I were to predict future comparisons I might say that scientist Craig Venter could be seen in a similar light as an intellectual such as Leonardo Da Vinci. J. Craig Venter, born in October of 1946, is an American scientist credited as being one of the first to map out the Human Genome.I believe that the human Genome Project has/has the potential to bring about great advances in the field of science.
Leonardo Da Vinci was especially advanced for his time period. He invented a "flying machine" of sorts that was somewhat further advanced (by some standards) than the original airplane invented by the Wright brothers from 1900-1903 in that Da Vinci's device of flight included aerodynamic wings, which the Wright brothers' first plane did not include.
Obviously, Craig Venter must be a very intellligent person to have been able to help crack the code of human DNA, but one must also take into consideration that he did not discover the Human Genome on his own, while Da Vinci did conduct his work by himself.
Taking all of this into consideration, I am led to say that, although there may not be a modern day Da Vinci, that is not to say that there are no note worthy individuals in this day and age. There are still some very smart people in this world and there will continue to be advancements in all fields of study as long as people continue to take knowledge from influences in the past in addition to their own experiences and create new knowledge for the future.
I believe there is no modern day Da Vinci because he was influential in many fields ranging from art to medicine and mathematics to physics. Perhaps more noteworthy than his achievements is the environment in which he achieved them in. In general, Europeans living before the Renaissance were uneducated and ignorant. The few educated Europeans usually belonged to the clergy and had little interest in science. The Renaissance led to the rediscovery and appreciation of classical knowledge. It also paved the way for future innovations.
Da Vinci was a bright beacon of the Renaissance. He was curious about his world and he quenched his thirst for knowledge through his own ingenuity. While most of his paintings were praised by his contemporaries, many of his radical ideas and inventions would not be appreciated for a few centuries. Many of these ideas and inventions greatly influenced future generations. His method of scientific investigation involved making predictions, writing hypotheses, and testing hypotheses through experiments. These are all elements of the modern scientific method. Many of Da Vinci's inventions could not be built during his time due to lack of technology. One example is his giant crossbow. In modern day, an attempt was made to build it, but it was not successful.
Da Vinci was such an influential figure because most of his ideas were original. This gave him sufficient time to develop them. Da Vinci was more interested in knowledge than finding applications for his new ideas. In modern time, the emphasis is on finding applications of scientific discoveries. Most corporations fund scientific research with the intent to create new products. They are usually more interested in making money than new scientific discoveries. There is no modern day Da Vinci because he made scientific discoveries that influenced future scientists, while modern day scientists are more interested in monetizing scientific discoveries.
I think this question is pretty easy to answer. There is no person alive or that has been alive since Da Vinci that can match his incredible talents or his ability to think about such abstract concepts in his or her own time. Let alone the ability to write and sketch down all his or her ideas. It is possible that some of the greatest painters, doctors, engineers, artists or observers/scientists, since his death could match Da Vinci in their respected fields but when it comes to doing all of these things in one life time there is no competition. If you just think about some of the art Da Vinci created you can see his wide understanding of the world around him. In the Mona Lisa, the easy talents to notice are Da Vinci’s ability to capture a still picture and put it on a blank canvas. Looking more closely, the incredible ability to shade colors is noticeable. Finally one can observe the Da Vinci’s intense understanding in the human body by noticing how well he paints the features on the face. If all Da Vinci did in his life, most people would consider painting the most recognizable painting a successful life. However painting was just a hobby to Da Vinci.
In terms of thinking ahead of his or her time, Da Vinci has never been equaled. He designed a giant cross bow, a helicopter and the first means of human flight. Flying was so far out of his time that most people didn’t even know what to think of the radical idea let alone test it. But Da Vinci’s immense talents didn’t end there. He designed an artificial heart valve that could be used today and he constructed pictures of various body systems. All said and done, Leonardo Da Vinci was an amazing individual. He made advances in not one or even two areas of study but more like 4 or 5. What this man did in his life in terms of secular advances to the human race has and most likely will never be equaled by another single person.
In my opinion there is not a single person in the modern world that could be looked back upon and be comparable to Da Vinci. Recently, it has taken large teams of scientists to even recreate and model some discovers that Da Vinci found alone centuries before. For example, Da Vinci’s models and graphs of the heart could not be confirmed until the 1980’s because it took hundreds of years for scientist to do similar to what Da Vinci did. No single person can do what Da Vinci did and even large groups of scientist struggle to match his work. Da Vinci was incredibly ahead of his time with his discovers that could not be matched for hundreds of years.
Possibly groups of scientists in the future could be compared in the same light as Da Vinci however no single person will be able to. No person will even come close to the amount of discoveries Da Vinci has to his name. Currently, most people will study in a certain field whether it be in medicine or in machinery and such as. Da Vinci, on the other hand, had created inventions and had discoveries ranging from war machines to the human heart which no person in the modern world would have to their name. No person in the modern world will be able to be comparable to Da Vinci because of the vast range of his discoveries and his incredible genius.
There are a few people from modern day who have very innovative minds and have contributed many things to society, such as Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg, but no one is comparable to Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci is unique because his endless imagination, observation, and dedication produced vast amounts of work that range from religious paintings to designs for a robot.
He transcends time in appeal because his ideas were so innovative that many were only achieved or proved within the last one hundred years. For example, he had a technical drawing of a gliding device that resembled a bird skeleton. When architects actually constructed his plans and were loyal to the original designs, they discovered that it would fly. Therefore, da Vinci beat the Wright brothers by about four hundred years. In addition, his observations of the flight of birds and water led him to conclude that blood circulation in the body must follow the principle of vortex formation in nature. Leonardo built a model of the aortic valve to test out his theories, resulting in detailed diagrams that matched what scientists proved only fourteen years before the movie. Other notions that he tinkered with include submarines, robots, and a crossbow that shoots 300 meters.
Furthermore, his works can still be actively appreciated. His paintings are pored over and examined for hidden clues about themes, feelings, or messages. The Mona Lisa alone has inspired legions of people to examine, theorize, and try to explain the reason behind her smile. Noted surgeons still refer to his anatomical drawings as well. Dan Brown even wrote a novel with da Vinci in the title and with many of his works imbedded in the plot.
No one has ever contributed as much to society as da Vinci, and it is highly unlikely anyone from our time period will be as highly regarded in the future. His genius has been celebrated for about five hundred years (da Vinci had the luxury of being acknowledged by his contemporaries for his work, unlike van Gogh and other artists who died in obscurity but whose work rose to fame posthumously), and people will continue to respect him. In a time when technology progresses so fast (from the walkman to the CD player to the iPod), da Vinci has still not been left behind. There is most likely no equivalent to Leonardo da Vinci from our time.
Leonardo da Vinci was one of the greatest minds to ever set foot on the face of the Earth. He was highly learned in many different fields of study such as biology, anatomy, aerodynamics, engineering, botany, art, amoung many others. He created extremely accurate sketches of the human body that are almost identical to the ones we have today that are created via advanced imaging techniques that we have only recently discovered. Yet he managed to create the same results 500 years ago. He also had advanced knowlegde of flight and lift 500 years before the Wright Brothers had there flight, and also created blueprints for a fully functionaly glider 500 years ago. He also created the most recongnizable painting in history in the Mona Lisa. He was the quintessential Rennaisance man.
When you look at the vast scope of da Vinci's works, it is difficult to imagine someone who could create the same body of work in the modern age. Every decade, our knowledge as a race is doubled. Also, with 6 billion people discovering this knowledge, it is virtually impossible to gain as much knowledge and become proficient in it as da Vinci did.
In conclusion, I do not think that there will ever be a modern day da Vinci because of the scope and magnitude of his countless achievements, and the high-tech, fast paced society that we live in today.
It could be said that Da Vinci is without modern parallel. For his time, he was a well-versed and avid follower of many fields. He worked extensively on theories and discoveries ahead of his time, some quite far ahead. Today this would be referred to as a 'jack of all trades' or a 'master of none.' Such an intellectual spread is actually discouraged in the favor of specialization. Modern intellectuals are encouraged to pursue one field, then to devote all their efforts in that direction.
Another major difference between Da Vinci's time and now is the motivation for work. Da Vinci worked apparently out of a love or curiosity for the fields he studied.Pay was more likely to come from his art career than from any of his discoveries. Since, to name one example, doctors are only today rediscovering things he found out back then, it is apparent that many of his prevalent theories were locked in books rather than published and added to the main-stream intelligence. While this may be attributed to the influence of the church, in the least it shows he was unlikely to be paid for his work. The focus on financials today is very strong in the private sector. Although it would be unfair to say nobody works out of love of a subject today, discoveries are rarely made by the individual. Drugs are produced 'by the company,' and most major developments come from either R&D departments, or from the private sector looking for something new to sell.
It must be said out of fairness, however, that we cannot truly judge the merits of today's intellectuals and compare them to Da Vinci. While Da Vinci was considered a popular painter in his time, he was nowhere near as famous for his discoveries as he is today. He is only now given the title as a creative genius because society has re-discovered and proven all his theories. What we may consider trivial, or even what we do not know, today could be the basis for a new field of science for further generations. We will likely not live this long, and as such can never truly tell who will turn into a 'Da Vinci.'
In my view Da Vinci was a man who was extraordinarily brilliant and no other person in history or in the present can even call themselves a modern day DaVinci. Da Vinci had many designs for experiments that weren’t even contemplated until the last 30-40 years. For example Da Vinci used cadavers to explore the human body and see how it worked and he figured out an invention that would help the heart that was discovered in the 20th century and he lived over 500 years ago. This just goes to show you that Da Vinci was a very complex person. The only way someone would kind of come close to him in terms of his genius is if you created a person with Stephen Hawking’s brain with some artistic mastermind’s brain and it still wouldn’t be enough to equal Da Vinci. Also almost every one of his ideas and inventions were ahead of his time like the hang glider that he designed because he discovered how the wings should be to give appropriate lift to get the glider in the air even before the Wright Brothers. Da Vinci was truly a man that will not have any people in the past, present, or near future that can be compared to him.
In my opinion, I do not believe that there is a modern, or has ever been a figure in history like Da Vinci. Leonardo Da Vinci had the knowledge and skill that people had not discovered until centuries after. He was widely known as one of the greatest artists of his time, and even to this day internationally renowned artists haven’t been around since the early 1900’s. But Da Vinci not only studied art, but studied anatomy, mechanics, scientific reason, and much more. According to the video, only about a quarter of his documents have been preserved throughout the years, so we really have no idea what Da Vinci was capable of. If his study of anatomy astonishes surgeons even to this date, who knows what other discoveries and knowledge he had attained over his years. Da Vinci was able to attain great knowledge from various subjects without the help of technology or any of the knowledge we have today. His state of mind was so advanced from his time period that I don’t believe anybody could have the chance to do so in our current time period. Subjects studied in this day and age are so specific, and studied so thoroughly that I don’t believe it is possible for one individual to study all of the subjects that Leonardo did. Their state of mind would have to span so wide and be so specific with specific details that I don’t believe it is possible.

Da Vinci was a man like no other. In comparison to the inventors of today he has made remarkable discoveries with far less resources. He drew accurate drawings of the human body that is still used even today, he made significant discoveries in flight, he used deceased humans to discover how blood circulates, and many other mind blowing discoveries. Unlike others of his time Da Vinci impacted the Renaissance not only art but a wide variety of areas, science being one. Da Vinci’s inventions were far beyond his time and many current inventions have formed off one of Da Vinci’s. Today, there are remarkable inventions being created however, they can not compare to Da Vinci. With out Da Vinci’s discoveries we may not be were we are today or have as many inventions. Da Vinci’s creativity, genius, originality, and determination can not be found in this day and age and it is very possible that it will never be seen again. Da Vinci has impacted the world too much with such few resources for someone to ever be as great as him.
In this modern day and age, there is no man or woman who comes close to rivaling the contributions and intellectual prowess of Leonardo Da Vinci. Da Vinci made contributions to many fields, including anatomy, sculpting, painting, engineering, mathematics, botany, architecture, and science. Truly a renaissance man, Da Vinci spent his entire life mastering almost every field and then contributing to it. Some of the greatest minds of the 20th century still do not come close to Da Vinci. For example, Einstein was one of the most brilliant minds that revolutionized science. However, he made contributions to only one field where as Da Vinci made brilliant discoveries in many.
Even if someone in modern day could possibly match Da Vinci, we would not be able to tell for centuries. Da Vinci is most well known for being a man before his time. He invented a flying machine that made use of lift, a helicopter, tank, a working heart valve, and made many discoveries about the human body and animals. Most of these discoveries were not figured out till the 3-500 years later. Also many of his inventions are proved to work today. Therefore for there to be a modern Da Vinci, it must be one who not only delves into the unknown, but also makes discoveries and contributions that centuries ahead of there time. If I had to choose people who are most like Da Vinci, it would be those scientists working on m-theory, time travel, long distance space travel, cloning, or any other futuristic fields.

I do not believe that there is anyone even near what Da Vinci accomplished in his lifetime. Da Vinci not only painted masterful works of art, he also creating engineering marvels way beyond his time, created accurate diagrams of human anatomy still in use today, and created the method of drawing technical diagrams. There are people in our time who can claim to champion one of these arts but not all of them at once to the degree of intensity and significance that Da Vinci created. Da Vinci designed machines that would not be reinvented until 500 years later such as the glider and his machines worked better than the first designs of aircraft. Da Vinci had created medical diagrams using black box logic that scientists are now able to conclusively prove 500 years later. Da Vinci was also a very talented painter, and created works of art that are still famous today and hang in Louvre, the most esteemed art museum in the world. There are still great artists in this world who will be remembered in the future. There are technical engineers that will be forever remembered as the creators of the internet, facebook, etc … finally there are doctors who discovered some of the most effective cures and solutions and saved thousands of lives. Regardless of this, there is not one person I can think of who eclipses all of these areas, and that is what would make a true modern Da Vinci.
